Recap on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
Hey fam! Down below is a link to some photos from our latest field trip to Jordan. I've also placed links to my Egypt photos and Jersalem photos on facebook. Jordan was awesome! We started off by visiting the traditional site of Jesus' baptism along the Jordan river. A church was built here in the 1 Century AD which makes the place a pretty good candidate for where John might have been teaching. The surrounding country side is also significant because this is where Elijah would've been taken up in a chariot of fire. The country Jordan itself is interesting. It's a lot more westernized than any other country I've been to in the Middle-East. How westernized you might ask? Well, let's just say we passed a "Fuddruckers" on the way into Amman, not to mention a "Hardees." (Sad to say Karl Marlone, or his diesel were no where in site.) We went into Petra early in the morning and it was awesome.The weather was crisp and perfect and it kept reminding me of the Narrows and southern Utah. The treasury is the famous rock facade in the Last Crusade and it was really breathtaking and it's almost dramatic when you see it the first time, because you come through this canyon and as you get nearer you can see a little bit of it ahead and then you come out into the clearing and BAM it's right there. Another thing I loved about Jordan was the people. They were so friendly and out going. An example of this is a cool experience I had, while we were visiting the Roman ruins of Jerash. While there, band members from the retired Jordanian Legion were playing in the amphitheatre and oddly enough there were two bagpipers. I went up and asked one of them if I could play with them and sure enough they let me go ahead and do it. It was an awesome experience. Yesterday we also drove down to Eilat by the Red Sea and went snorkeling for fun. It was awesome except for the fact that my backside looks like it's been slapped really hard. I don't know why, but my sunscreen didn't want to work for some reason. Since being home we were on lock down for a few days when we couldn't go into either East (Palestinian) or West (Israeli) Jerusalem, due to the recent events of the school shooting and protests among other things. But things have since calmed down and we're doing well. I've been loving and learning so much about this whole trip. I hope you're well and don't mind reading all of this on the blog. I'm sorry I couldn't post photos on the blog, it was taking a very long time so check the links and enjoy. Les amo mucho!
